They want to use the Mac for everything and there is no reason they can't except we want to have full control over those devices, and we don't want people to have the ability to log in anywhere except for enrolled/approved devices. We have considered using it for others, but they'd still technically be using windows. My helpdesk isn't super savy when it comes to Macs so the initial onslaught will help him get his feet So we currently use Azure Virtua Desktop for one mac user who is overseas. I know we have 5-10 people that have been asking to be able to use a mac for and at least 40 others who will want one because it's "the new thing".
The only downside (and it's very slight) is that 5-10 will likely become 50+ fairly quickly. If deploying through ABM/AAD/Intune works, that is probably the best way for us. I'm looking to get to a place where our people can use what they are most comfortable with. In the past we have deployed virtual desktops for mac users needing full access. Yeah, the dual boot thing is for the birds IMO. I have conditional access configured so that some of those restrictions don't apply in "trusted locations" like our hub offices. It's not that big of deal as we are all cloud, so people really just need access to their email and a few SSO authenticated web apps. The only options are to deploy, or to be really restrictive with non-deployed devices. If there was an easy way to "approve" user's personal mac os machines, I'd do that. The end result I am working toward is that our people cannot log into our MS ecosystem unless it's an approved/deployed device. Thats real restrictive, for netsec purposes? Even if it works, I think I need a machine to test with. I have tried everything except what I am just about to try (Reseating the RAM and a new hard drive). I don't even know if Monterey plays nice with Apple Business Manager because it keeps throwing an error when I try to install the OS from recovery mode. All I've got is a Mac Mini from late 2014 which can only be upgraded to Monterey. So, I need to do lots of policy testing with an actual mac. To setup Macs with Azure Active Directory/Intune, you have to first enroll them in Apple Business Manager.I'm not sure it's going to work the way it needs to for us. I'm looking to see if I can find a good way to allow Macs into our ecosystem at work.
